Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

We have had a wonderful day celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee as a school. In assembly this morning, every child was presented with a commemorative mug, kindly gifted from Thorner Parish Council and a commemorative book about Queen Elizabeth II from the Government. We hope the children treasure and enjoy these keepsakes.

During our PTA Easter fair, a local farmer whos son is a pupil at Thorner brought in a lamb for the children to meet!

Ash Class

Had a visit from Andy the bee keeper to learn how important bees are!

Elm class did an amazing job of leading the Easter Service. 

KS2

Our KS2 children has an amazing afternoon with author Tom Palmer, thank you to our amazing @FOTPTA  for funding this event @tompalmerauthor

Eco Big School Clean

All the classes participated in the Big School Clean, collecting litter that had been left on the school site.  We collected 8 bin bags – well done everyone.

Elm Class

Elm class have loved their DT project this half term, creating our very own Greek feasts! We even got a tour of the kitchen from Luke, it was very exciting!”

Maple Class

Maple have been building on their basketball skills! We have worked really hard as a team and loved to playing in the sunshine!

World Book Day 

The children in KS2 had an amazing workshop with West End Dance.

Maple Class

Maple have been using lots of cooking skills this week. They chose ingredients based on their consumer’s preferences and seasonality of the vegetables. Great work year 5!

Collective Worship

For collective worship this week, pupils have been making posters & writing prayers for the people of Ukraine #IStandWithUkraine

Elm class had a great day out exploring @LeedsCityMuseum

Hawthorn Class

Hawthorn Class had a great day with @Rivers2U finding out about #rivers, #flooding and #wildlife. It was lovely to see the excitement generated encountering fabulous freshwater invertebrates - a great atmosphere of enthusiastic learning!

Years 4, 5, 6

Years 4, 5, 6 joined in a maths juggling session organised by GSAL this morning. The children were amazed at the juggling and how they were able to create maths sequences to challenge the juggler! 

Elm Class

Over half term, some of Elm class created some Ancient Greek Temples out of everyday materials they could find at home. Mr Wilkinson and the rest of the class were so proud to see these creations. Lots of hard work has paid off! A HUGE well done

Oak Class

Oak Class really enjoyed an Ancient Mayan celebration. We had a lovely day celebrating the art, sport and food of the Ancient Maya. We discovered we are all fans of chocolate - but maybe not chilli hot chocolate!

Beech Class

Year 1 have been exploring abstract pattern.

Children’s Mental Health Week

The theme this year is ‘Growing Together’. The theme was introduced on Monday in our whole school assembly, where we thought about how we grow emotionally and how we can sometimes need help from others when we become stuck.
